Grease Lightning

Price: $13.95AUD for 45g as of 17-07-2013

This product is fondly dubbed "The Windex of LUSH" (see My Big Fat Greek Wedding) by myself and my family members. It is honestly one of the most effective things I've ever used.

It's designed as a spot cleanser, which it does a fantastic job of. Applying twice a day, nasty pimples tend to be gone in 2-3 days. Even blind pimples. It's absolutely wonderful and I would sing its praises from a rooftop. It's definitely in my top 10 favourite LUSH products list.

It has more uses than spot cleansing, however. One of the wonderful staff at the store I shop at told me that it has antibacterial properties, which means it can essentially be used as a wound disinfectant. A few days after I bought this product, my younger sister stepped on a metal shade umbrella holder at a family friend's house and got a deep cut in her foot (to give you an idea on how deep/generally nasty looking it was, my mum was worried about tetanus - thankfully my sister's vaccines were up to date). I told mum what the staff member told me and she started putting it on my sister's foot twice a day. At first it brought a lot of pus to the surface, which made mum wonder whether she should be using it, but within 2 - 3 days it had cleared up completely. I've used it on open wounds myself and in my experience it doesn't sting as much as other antibacterial products. If used a few times a day, it will produce visible results very, very fast - something I thought was only possible in advertisements. In my personal experience, it also works very well on piercings (I have 6 in my upper ear cartilage - a rook and 5 helix piercings for anyone curious - which are very temperamental and become infected/painful easily) in combination with the disinfectant spray that the piercing place sells. It doesn't work lightning speed, but nothing has for my piercings. It provides relief from pain/itching and helps with swelling.

The staff member also told me that she uses it as a makeup base (before applying foundation). I've tried this and liked it as it does give my makeup a more even, glowing look, but there is the slight issue that Grease Lightning dries somewhat like the glue I used to put on and peel off my fingers (at least my Grease Lightning does). This means that there are small white flakes on parts of your face by the end of the day, which wasn't really a good look, so I stopped using it for that. For spot clearing/antibacterial use though, I'd give it 10/10. Would recommend to anyone.

Introduction/Purpose

Hi there, reader!

I, like many people, am a self-admitted LUSH addict. I adore the brand, their products and all they stand for. The purpose of this blog is to review LUSH products to the best of my ability. I am not an expert in these products by any means and my opinion should be taken only as an opinion, no more.

That being said, I am in the store a fair bit and do enjoy chatting to the staff, so I know a little about the products and as it's my dream casual job, hope to be hired there and know far more soon. For now though, I will add relevant opinions/information from staff members to the post they belong in.

Note: As would be the case for any cosmetic reviewer, I am biased. I will be honest about products I wasn't/am not really keen on, but I do have my own idea of how a cosmetic product should perform. This should also be taken into account when reading my reviews.

I think that's all I need to tell you guys for now. Happy LUSH-ing!
